After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Dutch Law, Mirjam enrolled in the Master’s programme in Business Law at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. She graduated with a specialization both in commercial law and company law. Her passion lies with transport law, insurance law and with maritime law in the widest sense of the term. While studying for her Master’s, she enrolled in a number of extra subjects in the Master’s programme for Maritime & Transport Law. The thesis she wrote for the commercial law variant focuses on the right of retention on sea ships in situations involving bankruptcy – a subject with a Rotterdam ‘touch’.
With Jikke Biermasz, Mirjam was intensely involved in the CO3 project subsidised by the European Union (www.co3-project.eu). This project focuses on the horizontal collaboration in the supply chain. Mirjam and Jikke were responsible for the entire legal framework.
Mirjam is very passionate, enthusiastic and has a solution-oriented outlook. Staying the course, while having an eye for detail and creativity, combined with a “straightforward” mentality, is very typical of Mirjam and the way she works.
Mirjam and Kneppelhout
‘In my family, doing business in the port of Rotterdam and surrounding area is familiar territory. This explains the affinity I have for commercial law. I also worked for three years as a clerk for the Insolvency Team and the last two years at Team Haven & Handel of the Court in Rotterdam. Kneppelhout is a member of the Sociëteit Rotterdam Maritiem [Rotterdam Maritime Society] (www.societeitrotterdammaritiem.nl). I am the contact person for this on behalf of our firm.’
‘Outside of work, my sports hobby is cycle racing, my artistic hobby is portrait drawing and I draw inspiration from my passion for classical music.’
